How we calculate
- For flat-rate processors (Stripe, Square, Clover): cost = (rate% x volume) + (per-txn fee x number of transactions) + monthly fee
- For interchange-plus (Helcim): we assume average interchange of 1.8% + 0.10 for in-person, 2.0% + 0.10 for online. Actual rates vary by card type.
- For subscription models (Stax, Payment Depot): cost = monthly fee + (interchange x volume) + (per-txn fee x transactions). We use the same interchange assumptions.
- Number of transactions = monthly volume / average ticket size
- Multi-plan processors show their best plan for your volume
- All figures are estimates. Actual costs depend on card mix, industry, and specific interchange categories.
